About Youth Revolution Tasmania Inc.
Creating safe, welcoming spaces where young people can connect, belong, and feel supported.
Who We Are
Youth Revolution Tasmania Inc. is a community initiative focused on creating safe, welcoming spaces where young people can connect and experience a sense of belonging.
At its core, Youth Revolution is about people, creating opportunities for young people to feel seen, heard, and supported.
Our Story
Youth Revolution began with a simple idea, to create a space High School students could come together, share great food, have fun and feel like they belong.
After seven years working as a School Chaplain in Launceston’s Northern Suburbs, founder Sonya Harris recognised a growing need for supportive spaces outside of school.
This led to the development of the Youth Revolution Hangout, a weekly after-school space built around connection, consistency and community.
From these beginnings, it became clear how powerful simple, regular connection can be in supporting our youth in Launceston.
Our Approach
Youth Revolution is built around creating consistent spaces where young people can connect, feel supported, and be themselves.
This includes weekly Hangout sessions that provide regular after-school connection, along with youth-focused initiatives that create opportunities for young people to share ideas and be part of conversations that matter.
Founder’s Message
Youth Revolution is shaped by my Christian faith and a strong sense of calling to serve young people with integrity, compassion and hope.
Working as a School Chaplain in Launceston’s Northern Suburbs gave me firsthand insight into the challenges many children face, particularly within their home lives and the impact this can have on their wellbeing and education. Through this experience, I recognised the need for a safe and welcoming space outside of school where high school students could connect, feel supported and experience a sense of belonging.
From this, the Youth Revolution Hangout was born. With the encouragement, support and inspiration of my dear friends Jan and Dennis Adams, we developed a simple after-school programme, a welcoming space where children can share food, spend time together and simply be themselves.
With the support of a dedicated team of volunteers, both through their time and financial contributions, from Newnham Christian Fellowship, City Baptist, City Mission, and Summerhill Baptist, it has grown into a place where young people experience genuine belonging.
We have all loved spending time with the children each week and have built strong and meaningful relationships with them.
Youth Voices Project – Pizza Sessions reflects the next step in this journey, creating a space where our youth can be heard, share their ideas and build confidence through connection and conversation. Through these sessions, we also aim to encourage education, training and future pathways, while strengthening the support systems and relationships that help our young people feel inspired, valued and supported in their next steps.
Youth Revolution Tasmania Inc. remains committed to creating meaningful opportunities and understanding what matters most to our young people in Launceston.
This is just the beginning.
